Phishing is a kind of cyber-attack, one of the oldest types and it's still one of the most widespread across the world, that uses disguised email as a weapon. The goal is to trick the email receiver into believing that the message is something they want or need — a request from their bank or a note from someone in their company — and will have a link to click or download an attachment. The attackers are disguised as a trusted entity of some kind, often a real or believably real person, or a company the victim might do business with.
Spear phishing – Is a kind of attack where attackers try to craft a message to appeal to a specific individual. Phishers identify addresses to send emails and spoofed them so that they could probably look like they're coming from co-workers. For example, the spear phisher might target someone in the finance department and pretend to be the victim's manager requesting a large bank transfer on short notice.
Whale Phishing/Whaling - It is a form of spear phishing aimed at the very big fish — CEOs or other high-value persons. Company board members are targeted in many of these scams, who are considered particularly vulnerable because they have a great deal of authority within a company and since they aren't full-time employees, they often use personal email addresses for business-related correspondence, which doesn't provide the protections offered by corporate email.
